Rob Griggs is executive MD of Bytes Systems Integration, a Division of Bytes Technology Group South Africa (Pty) Ltd, wholly owned by JSE-listed Altron. Rob oversees a staff complement of around 1,000 I.T. professionals, with turnover of some R 1.4 billion. Rob was born in then Salisbury, Rhodesia in 1955, and later entered the computer industry by learning programming in the UK at London Polytechnic. To date, Rob now has more than 30 years’ experience in the I.T. sector, has designed, programmed and implemented corporate business systems, ran his own company for eight years and has been in general management positions in the South African and UK I.T. industry for the last 18 years.
Rob’s current responsibility means he addresses all aspects of corporate and government end-user computing, including hardware and operating software, data centres, cloud services, local and wide area networking including Telco carrier-class network switches, contact centres, workforce management and Microsoft software services.
Rob has twice been seconded to the Bytes UK operations for a total period of three years. On both of these occasions, he assumed the role of MD of newly acquired businesses, restructuring them into profitable operations and appointing new executive directors and line management before returning to South Africa.
Rob has been instrumental in the acquisition and subsequent restructuring and incorporation of several large companies into Bytes Technology Group. He played a major role in managing the turnaround of CS Holdings, then a R350 million JSE-listed company, subsequent to its acquisition in 2004.
Rob remains active in Bytes Technology Group’s offshore operations and he is also responsible for the Bytes group’s overall growth strategy into Africa.
