Learnerships

A Learnership is a structured learning process for gaining knowledge and practical skills in the workplace leading to a qualification registered on the National Qualification Framework.

It is a workplace education and training programme comprising both structured practical workplace (on-the-job) experience and structured theoretical training. The duration of a Learnership is approximately twelve months, and results in a full qualification. Learnerships are important because success is measured in terms of actual skills that the learner acquires. A Learner is taught why and how things are done and must understand the theory that supports the practice.

Learnerships help people to improve basic literacy and numeracy. The learners are assessed at various stages to see if they are progressing and are able to perform the tasks for which they are being trained.

The NQF qualification is nationally recognised.
